Ryan Mitchell: A tiny location-independent life
February 11, 2015 | Podcast
Getting laid off from his job led Ryan to reevaluate the way he lived and the way he worked. Eventually he created a location-independent livelihood and a pared-back, debt-free lifestyle in a tiny house, giving him the time and flexibility to travel and focus on what matters most to him.
Most Memorable Location-Independent Experiences
Two big things jump out at me:
The first was when I had moved into my tiny house and realized I no longer had rent or a mortgage, and my job could be done anywhere. It was then I understood: the game most people play of “if you could do anything, what would it be?” was no longer a thought experiment; it was my life.
The second was the moment I was about to click the “buy” button to purchase my first ticket abroad for long term. When I realized it scared me, I knew I had to do it.
Biggest Surprise along the Way
How normal it can feel to live anywhere, work anywhere. What seems exotic to most is now my everyday life.
