Test Drive Location Independence!
August 14, 2013 | Nomad Life, Travel Logistics, Work & Business
Last year, when Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast of the United States, a lot of people were affected to varying degrees. Many weren’t in the storm’s direct path, but lost power for numerous days. A lot of people I know left home to stay with friends or family, or went to a hotel, until power was restored.
One of my friends had to leave home for a week or more, and later told me that the experience made her realize how important it is to have a truly location-independent business. It was difficult to have to leave home unexpectedly and continue to run her business from a different location. She realized she was still way too tethered to her desk/office.
There are plenty of people like my friend who are technically location independent (meaning they could do their work from anywhere), but they haven’t actually given it a test drive. Then something unexpected happens—a storm, a family emergency, or something more fun like a spur-of-the-moment vacation—and they’re not prepared to work from somewhere besides their home office (or local coffee shop).
For many people, this is also an essential piece of creating a more nomadic life, yet they aren’t sure what it’s like to work from anywhere, because they’ve never done it.
So, I thought, why not give people an opportunity to actually take location independence for a test drive, in a fun and supportive environment? Then they’ll be ready when that next unexpected situation or opportunity arises!
I created the Work-from-Anywhere Test Drive and the Work-from-Anywhere Toolkit to help you test out your current setup and learn how to fix the parts that aren’t working well. They’re now available to members of the Nomadtopia Collective, our online community that offers all the resources and support you need to build and thrive in your own Nomadtopia. Join us!
