I’ve written before about how it took me more than two years to quit my job and start traveling, and how I prefer to weave a net before I leap.

But now, as I prepare for yet another leap, I’m recognizing that although planning, saving, and preparation are part of my net, its main components are actually other, less-tangible things, like confidence, trust, faith.

Because no matter how much you do in advance, there will always be setbacks of one kind or another, and the unexpected is to be expected. No matter what you plan for, something will probably go awry.

Not only that, but if you wait until you’re prepared for every eventuality, you’ll probably never go anywhere!

So what to do?

Believe. Build your confidence.

Look at the worst-case scenario; think back on all the things life has already thrown your way (and how you’re still here).

Trust that no matter what happens, you can handle it. You’ll figure it out. (And it might even lead you somewhere even better than you had expected.)

As we set off toward Asia, we’re putting the pieces in place. But there’s a lot we don’t know, a lot of variables we can’t totally control.

So what do we do, stay home?

Of course not!

We’re going anyway, with the faith that everything will work out, somehow.
